Show me the GAP Chuck – Daniel 9:26

Within hours of posting the video on the internet this was the first comment, “We are supposed to be Christians who love each other. The thing that amazes me about all of you preachers and teachers is how arrogant some of you are. Each one of you thinks you are right. Maybe all of you are wrong. Maybe some of you are right. Maybe all of you are right in some way. How can you not humble yourselves and agree that you are all trying to figure this out? You are all going to be surprised when you stand before the King and find out just how little you do know.”
This comment is really a very clever ad hominem attack.
Rather than address the debate or defend the indefensible it is much easier to accuse the messenger of being unloving, not humble, and arrogantly stupid, but he did it very well. One thing I will cop to is not being popular, there I could take lessons from Chuck Missler, if that were my object.  I have been tempted to make those necessary compromises with the truth, but my Bible also says that the fear of YHWH is the beginning of knowledge, so I let that govern my conduct here.
Honestly I wont be surprised at all how little I knew when Yahushua returns, but are we not supposed to point out false teaching now?.. perhaps some have a lower standard of honesty.  If I were to say that “a gap or interval is express, and not conjecture in the text of Dan 9.26” I would be a liar and or deceived.  What Chuck claims is there, is not there.  The good Pastor always says, “don’t trust me, look in the book, make sure what I’m saying is in there…”   This verse is only 50 words, the question is not that complicated. Being humble is not the same thing as being gullible.  Does Chuck not need to repent, or is that unloving?
Just how important is this question?  It is the cornerstone of the entire Futurist scheme of eschatology, the Achilles Heel if you will.  Certainly there are a thousand supporting verses for every fallacy, but that makes them no less false.  Tens of thousands of “Christians” make decisions every day based on the Futurist Eschatological scheme of things, because it puts things which they should be concerned with today off to a future which is primarily a fantasy.  At the same time confining eminent and future dangers to a false “seventieth week” period of time in the nether future which even when that comes they will be “pre-tribulation raptured” to safety.
Pastors, if you are going to teach on the 7 year tribulation, Daniel chapter 9 or anything that springs from this view of prophecy, then you must watch this video if you want to be sure that you are not engaged in a fallacy or teaching one.  The video speaks for itself.  As for me,  I must obey God rather than man and what popularity demands.
Peace

Nicklas

  1. What happened during the 70th week? According to the diagram at the beginning of your video, Jesus was baptized, then 3.5 years of ministry, then crucifixion, then 3.5 years of evangelizing the Jews. Chuck Missler points out that the 69 weeks end on Sunday, April 6 of the year 32, Passover week. Is this counting wrong? If this calculation is correct then Jesus was baptized on a Passover week, but when He was crucified, 3.5 years later, it would not have been a Passover week.

  2. It is pretty easy to see a gap. Verse 26 makes no mention of being the 70th week, (I am conversely applying the logic you did to prove missler wrong).

    69 weeks, pause. 70th week.

In revelation, 6 seals, gap, then the 7th.
6 trumpets, gap, then the 7th
6 bowls, gap, then the 7th.

Abraham took Isaac up the same hill Jesus was crucified on

Joshua blew trumpets mirroring revelation and he also had a gap of silence before the 7th.

I humbly submit that God, through his written word, fulfills prophecy in patterns and with consistency. All of these prophecies point to the same event. And god uses events that are historical foreshadowing of the future.

For you to say “there is no gap” while expressly ignoring the other gaps in the Bible for the same event puts you in a position of having one prophecy unlike the remainder.

In this case, Missler is consistent with the remainder of the Bible.

    1. Unlike the 70 weeks prophecy, not one of your references has a time frame attached to it. God did not lie, when he said seventy weeks that is what He meant. If the week that actually followed the 69th week was not the 70th week, just what was it? Will there be another 70th week?

    2. Different events happen at different times, usually with an elapse (or gap) of time between them, which do not need to be stated. That however is called a specious comparison.
But when God explicitly enumerates a time frame, say 40 years, or seventy years, or 490 years – if He doesn’t express a gap there, who does any man think he is to add a gap to what God has expressed? And why would God give us a time frame for certain events, then violate the time frame with a gap? Then not tell us about it, but rather leave it to some shady character from the 19th century to reveal it to his church, after which God expects us to ignore the the plain and contiguous language of the text?
If the case be that God wishes to violate His expressed time frame, then He would surely and expressly state it in the scripture, because He is not the author of confusion.

  3. I am a Bible-believing Christian expositor specializing in chronology and prophecy. The reason I am writing to you, a provider of Bible exposition, is this: There is no gap in the Daniel 9 chronology.

Every exposition of Daniel 9:24-27 (the Seventy Weeks) that I have examined in current study Bibles and popular conservative commentaries on Daniel, including those by such conservative Christian luminaries as Matthew Henry, Albert Barnes, John Nelson Darby, C. I. Scofield, Sir Robert Anderson, Arno C. Gaebelein, Clarence Larkin, H. A. Ironside, John F. Walvoord, Leon J. Wood, and Edward J. Young that you feature in your software is outdated and incorrect.

If you want to check what I believe to be a more correct interpretation of that portion of Scripture, you can do so by reading my booklet HE IS THE ONE. A free copy in PDF format is available for download

I hope that you will avail yourself of the opportunity to consider and understand in its fullness the Messianic prophecy in Daniel 9:24-27 that God has given us and that Jesus has fulfilled exactly. It shows that Jesus is the only person in the past 2,000 years who meets the chronological and prophetic requirements of the prophecy. As a New Testament ministry, I would hope that you would not dismiss that possibility.

Sadly, both Christianity and Judaism have been teaching this portion of Scripture incorrectly for far too long. It has been easy for flaws in the traditional interpretations popular in Christianity to be pointed out by rabbis and Jewish theologians to discredit the clear Gospel message contained in the ninth chapter of Daniel.

By the way, the exposition of Daniel 9:24-27 in my booklet HE IS THE ONE precisely satisfies the requirements of the biblical text and documented history, both at the same time, unlike all of the traditional interpretations of Daniel 9 you will have read in your reference books, interpretations that usually fall short in matching the biblical text or documented history in one way or another, sometimes in both ways.

I pray that you will find HE IS THE ONE enlightening and useful.

  5. Another example of a prophesy with a gap is given in Isaiah 61/ 1-2a(The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me….. to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour- was fulfilled 2000 years ago -Luke 4/18-19). 2B“and the day of vengeance of our God” is yet to be fulfilled. Likewise there are other gaps on Messianic prophesies such as that he would come from Bethlehem of Judah (Micah5/2)and also from Egypt(after fleeing to Egypt many years later etc). Trust this adequately explains the Dan 9/27 gap. Blessings Lucky

I will answer the last question: in Isaiah 61 there is no time frame or limit in which the various prophetic utterances must take place as opposed to the Daniel prophecy, a definite 490 year period is referenced with nothing explicit in the text to warrant a juxtaposition of the final week. to move this final week of to a future fulfillment can only be based on extra biblical presupposition or complete conjecture.
see my What Year Is It presentation to see exactly how the 490 years fit into the full biblical timeline.

WEARILY WEARILY I SAY UNTO THEE!!!

Let’s look at the irrefutable facts.

When was the command given by Cyrus BC 536. This was followed by Darius’s command in BC 516 followed by King Artaxerxes command in BC 457.

If we count 483 years or 69 weeks from BC 457 we come up to AD 26 (Year of Baptism). +3.5 year ministry of the Lord = AD30(difference of +3 years in history)
The Lord’s ministry was for exactly 3.5 years. He was cut off “After 69 weeks”(Dan 9/26 a). The 2nd temple was destroyed in AD 70.

The Messiah started the new covenant as per Jer 31/31-34. The “new” covenant was under a “new” priesthood (tribe of Judah) and with the “new blood” precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. This started at the END of The Lord’s ministry WHEN He was cut off and offered His Blood in the Most Holy place in the heavenly tabernacle (Heb 9/11-12).
Please note that the new covenant was STARTED ONLY AFTER the shedding of His precious Blood in AD 30. It is incorrect to assume that the new covenant started at the commencement of His ministry in AD 26 (i.e. 3.5 years prior in AD 30) because His Blood had not been shed until AD 30. The Lord Jesus Christ could not have confirmed a covenant for 7 years without first shedding His Precious Blood. The shedding of the new blood is necessary to set in motion the new covenant (Read Heb 9/15-19, specially read Heb 9/17-18- A will is in force only when somebody has died it never comes into force while that person is still living. This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect WITHOUT BLOOD).
There is nothing in Jer 31-34 that suggests that the new covenant with the house of Israel and Judah will be only for a period of 7 years as per Dan 9/27. It is meant to be an everlasting covenant not limited to 7 years.

Hence the Dan 9/27 “a covenant” is a different covenant from the Jer 31/31 “The Covenant”. Please note that the 2nd Temple built in the book of Ezra has already been destroyed in Dan 9/26 b. Therefore vs 27 has everything to do with the rebuilding of the 3rd temple and recommencing of the sacrifices under the Mosean Law (after a confirmation of the Old covenant obsolete since AD 70). In the middle of the week the sacrifices will cease and the abomination will be placed (read 2 Thess 2/4) . This is a future event and happens after the GAP. As The Messiah was cut off AFTER 3.5 years of the end of the 69th week, there is only another half a week left of the 70th week yet to be fulfilled. The fact that this is yet to be fulfilled is confirmed in the book of Rev chapters 11/3 and Rev 12/6. The book of Revelation was written after the destruction of the 2nd temple in AD100 (temple destroyed in AD 70).

My considered opinion is that since there is much debate on this subject that we should portray both interpretations and allow the reader to decide. Then the reader’s decision will be an informed decision and not made in ignorance(as the consequences of ignorance are colossal).

Dan 9/24-27 is a controversial topic that has divided the church through the ages. Trust this makes sense! Nicklas no offense meant when I got carried away with my emotions. Nicklas

Verse 26 refers to the Messiah being cut off and the PEOPLE OF THE PRINCE TO COME destroying the city and the sanctuary. It is reasonable to assume that the Messiah is NOT the Prince to Come. It is also reasonable to assume that verse 26 precedes verse 27. Do you accept that The PEOPLE OF THE PRINCE TO COME refers to Titus’ general and the Romans who destroyed the temple in AD 70? If you accept this reasoning, then it follows that verse 27 events must follow AFTER the events of verse 26 (which took place in AD 70).

If you accept this reasoning as well, then it is unreasonable to assume that after following a chronological sequence from verses 24-26, that verse 27 should suddenly flash back to AD 33 and make reference to the Messiah (who was cut off in AD 33) confirming a covenant back in AD 30-33, when clearly the time line is now in AD 70. God is NOT the author of confusion.

The “HE” in verse 27 cannot refer to the Messiah, who has been cut off in AD 33. The “HE” in verse 27 must refer to either the “THE PRINCE TO COME” of verse 26 (which is undeniable Titus) or another ruler like Titus who is yet to come. If the “HE” of verse 27 related to the Messiah, then it is reasonable to assume that verse 27 would have come before verse 26.

Now follow this reasoning carefully as this explains the GAP. The “HE” in verse 27 cannot refer to Titus either as verse 26 also talks about an “end” and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. This took place in AD 70. Verse 27 “ HE will confirm a covenant with many” therefore refers to a period AFTER THE “END”. THIS IS “THE GAP” THAT I AM REFERING TO, THE PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THE END OF VERSE 26 AND beginning of VERSE 27.

I Hope this makes sense. I cannot make it clearer than this. If you wish to contest this reasoning please start from where I have stopped and disprove my reasoning first. Do not start with another counter theory and take the focus off mine, without first disproving mine! Remember you are a genuine “Seeker after the Truth”. I believe, you are not interested in defending your position and your reputation at any cost.

  6. If one were to read the OT before Jesus was cut off, one would have a tough time discerning two comings i.e. that there is a gap. Many Jews believed there were actually two Messiahs. So indeed, it turns out that there is a gap after 69 weeks whether one can discern that only from Daniel 9: 24-26 or not or did I miss something. Jesus did come and was killed after 69 weeks of years. in his second coming, Zech 12 will be fulfilled which fits well with a 70th week of events.
As far as the ad hominem attack on Chuck Missler as being an agent of the Vatican, I can only say that I am truly shocked and saddened. Missler has always refuted the doctrines of Rome as anyone remotely familiar with his teaching can attest. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself and his kingdom cannot stand. The preterist allegorization of eschatology started with Origen and Augustine and has been Catholic doctrine carried over after the reformation. The reformers did a very important work of restoring the centrality of Christ and Christ alone but they did not correct all of the traditions of Rome.
It would not be surprising to me if the Holy Spirit began to open our understanding as we get nearer to the end of the age.

    1. The proper Christian understanding of the the 490 years from Daniel has not been allegorized. An allegorization occurs when you tell a story that you think did not happen, and is told only for the sake of imparting some sort of truth or lesson.

You can bring up Origen and Augustine and Catholics all you want, but the fact of the matter is that the RCC also, at least in lip service, proclaims the truth of the Trinity. Does that mean that the Trinity is false?

Moreover, whatever Origen and Augustine advocated is not necessarily what the Reformed view believes across the board. If Hitler used toilet paper, that doesn’t mean you’re a Nazi because you use toilet paper as well.

Also, it does not matter if many Jews were looking for two Messiahs. The notion of there being some sort of tag team messiahship cannot be reconciled with the Holy Truths of the Bible.

As for Chuck Missler, I do not know hardly anything about him. He may simply be someone whose heart is in the right place, but who is sorely mistaken. Intentions aside, he is, quite simply, wrong, and that is more than enough to discard what he has to say. One should not need to be “sensitive” to something that is obvious.

Dispensationalists brag quite a bit that if one follows the “plain, historical grammatical hermeneutic” of Biblical interpretation, one naturally and inevitably comes to the point of Dispensationalism. I have seen this exhibitionistic pretension over and over again. I have to wonder, if it really is so obvious, why did it not really take off in earnest until the early 20th Century — nearly 2000 years after our glorious Lord Jesus Christ showed His miraculous mercy and patience and love for we who do not deserve it.

One of the most common complaints I have heard from Dispensationalists has been that the Reformed view “allegorizes” the Bible. I recently asked a dispensationalist whether he thought like Nicodemus, that he had to enter his mother’s womb again to be born again. For some strange reason, he thought it was an absurd question.

Fact is, Dispensationalists eventually have to admit that the Bible, all over the place, uses figurative language to illustrate spiritual truths. Though when you’ve brought them to the place where they have to admit that, they’re typically hopping mad at you for doing so. You wouldn’t believe the number of times I’ve been damned to hell for disagreeing with someone holding to a concept that was unknown until more than 1800 years after Christ, and that really did not take hold, somewhat, in one part of the world, until about 1900 years after Christ.

Nearly TWO millennia seems like a fairly long time to understand something that is supposedly so very obvious.

When you read Daniel, do you really get the idea that that prophecy was not so much for Daniel and the original audience + 490 years? Do you honestly think that that prophecy was intended for the Heehaw demographic who writes and reads “End Times Prophecy” books merchandised in the front window of Christian book stores in the late 1900’s and early 2000’s?

Gabriel didn’t really come down for Daniel and his contemporaries + 490 years. He came down for people who will be alive, but raptured prior to, a 7 year span of “tribulation” brought about by a guy named “Nicholas Carpathia.” Good grief! Give me a liberal Hollywood filmmaker above this asininity any day.

When Revelation says that all Christians who read that book will be blessed, it doesn’t really mean it. Revelation is not for Christians throughout Christianity. It’s for those Christians who think themselves to be living in the prophetic times of the nation state of Israel, which, as it turns out, also happens to be, according to Biblical standards, against Christ in its attitude and belief.

Yes, thousands of years of monumental Christian history may pass by, but believe you me, Revelation is primarily about a tiny span of 7 years, which, coincidentally, happens to occur when certain people write certain books that make them a great deal of money. Give me books written by real authors, Christians or not, above this Dispensationalist trash any day.

And of course, we know that God won’t cause Christians to suffer for Christ. It’s not as if Christians who had to undergo the “Judas Cradle,” or being burned at the stake, or the dozens of other incomprehensible tortures for century after century after century after century after century after century of the Inquisitions actually happened. Those Christians really don’t amount to very much. It’s modern day Christians, with their TBN, and Left Behind books, and their Christian Zionism, and their John Hagee and Tim LaHaye and Hal Lindsey and all the rest of the Rapturites that really matter.

Daniel’s 70 weeks was for all Christians, and certainly not for Daniel’s time. There’s a gap. Trust me. There’s a gap. I don’t care if the text doesn’t allow for a gap. I need a gap. So therefore, there is a gap. And if I feel like it, I’ll darn well put as many gaps into consecutive prophecies as it pleases me. I am speaking ex cathedra, now.

  7. Very good video. I came to the same conclusion, when I studied the scripture without human interference. I’m happy that people are starting to come out of all these false teachings, In Daniel the angels tells him that knowledge would increase in the latter days, I believe he was speaking of the Word of God becoming clearer as we reach the end. I pray that many more will come out of these false churches and start trusting God and the Holy Spirit as their teachers rather than men.

  8. Just a note to those who want to ‘add’ a gap between verses 26 & 27. Revelation 22:18 teaches that we are NOT to add to the words of the prophesy of this book. Which book? The book of Revelation or the Bible? The book of Revelation is part of the Bible, and if you add anything to the book of Revelation, you have added it to the Bible. So, in this case, adding a ‘gap’ between Daniel 9:26 & 27 [or anywhere else in the Bible] would be totally wrong to do. Wouldn’t it?

  9. Christ fulfilled all 6 points of the prophesy in Daniel 9:24 and fulfilled the whole prophesy or Daniel is a false prophet and Jesus IS NOT THE MESSIAH as Jesus himself stated “I come to fulfill ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS CONCERNING ME” either he did in his day or Jesus is made a liar, Jesus caused the sacrifices and the oblations to cease by the sacrifice of himself (Dan9:27) and If you are awake there has been no sacrifices ever since. These false teachers claim ANTICHRIST will cause the sacrifices and oblations to cease…opps wait, an atichrist would first have to start up the sacrifices again then do that, yet the passage says no such thing. Daniels seventy weeks was all about one person THE MESSIAH THE PRINCE and Jesus FULFILLED ALL of the seventy weeks and his prayer to the father in John 27 clearly stated “I have FINISHED the work you sent me to do” So his work was complete, there is nothing left for Jesus to do but return in the hearts of men that he might destroy the wicked, the wickedness of mens hearts that he ,might save them.

  11. Hello, sorry if this is long but, just for the record, I love the Lord’s Word, and honest attempts by the Lord’s children to seek clarity from the Father’s holy scriptures is always a delight. Sheila makes a very important point which doesn’t seem to have been given it’s due. The true place to look for a gap or no gap is in the verse least referenced and that’s 26. When you start with this verse the whole debate must be re-framed and perhaps one might even arrive at a different view completely.
Verse 26 ” And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off.. Dan 9:25-26 (KJV)” First, how does Messiah get “cut off” before His 69th week arrival in verse 24?
We seem to always start with Verse 24…”unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks Dan 9:25 (KJV)” or rather the infamous 69 weeks from which we all seem to begin timing out the seventieth week assuming it’s the correct starting point. Actually there are 8 more weeks to account for out of the 70 weeks when one starts with verse 26. That’s a total of 56 years to mark out. While true dating is always murky, it is generally agreed Jesus was crucified between 30-33 AD.
The 63rd week is the one where Jesus makes a covenant for 1 week in verse 27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: ” Dan 9:26-27 (KJV). This is the week in which he is actually “cut off” in the middle of the week, after the completion of 62 uneventful weeks of years before Messiah arrived. We still have 7 weeks, or 49 years, which need to be added to the end of the 63rd week………..

I forgot to mention that since Jesus refers to Daniel’s “abomination of desolations” as yet to occur, there are others who believe that Daniel’s prophecy was fulfiiled in 70 A.D. when Jerusalem was destroyed by Titus. Still, some argue that there was no “abomination of desolation,” set up in the temple, even though it was destroyed.

    1. The “abomination of desolation” [Mat 24] was a sign given by the Messiah to let his followers know when it was urgent to flee Judea so they would not get caught in the “end thereof [shall be] with a flood” [Dan 9:26], the destruction of the nation. So we know that it happened before the destruction of the Temple.

  13. I agree with you on this and don’t see a gap here either. However, the traditional dispensationalists assume a gap between v.26 and v.27 by reading the account here as parallel to Dan. 11:31-35, and specifically to v.35 where it says, “until the time of the end, for there is still an interval until the time apointed.” There is also Rev. 10:6, “There will be no more delay,” implying a delay or interval had occured.
I’m not saying I agree with the dispensationalists. This interval could merely be referring to the remainig 3 1/2 years, after the abomination of desolations is set up. Still, there are others who believe that this prophecy of Daniel was fulfiiled by Antiochus Epihanes. The only problem with that is that the “anointed one” was not cut off in the time of Antiochus Epihanes. So, Antiochus is considered to be a foreshadowing of the antichrist, and the prophecy is projectected into the future with the period between the crucifixion and the last 7 weeks being the dispensation or church age. In essence the “interval” theory is the only way they can make the prophecy work.

  14. When I looked the Daniel references. I found that in Daniel 9:24 “70 weeks”. In verse 25, it says seventy weeks, and three score and two weeks = 69 weeks. but then in verse 26 it shares that after the first 62 weeks (threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself) which leaves us with 7 weeks of the initial 69 week reference in verse 25 where the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. then in verse 27 is where he shall confirm the convenant with many for one week…. (the 70th week). It would appear that the “gap” being references would be between the 62nd and 69th weeks and then the 70th week follows congruently. Just a thought that came to me when hearing this message and looking at my KJV Bible.

    1. Not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to say. the passage divides into 3 segments
7 weeks + 62 weeks + 1 week = total 70 weeks. taken literally there are no gaps.
hope this clears things up for you.

      1. correct. That is what i was pointing at. I could not find a gap, I was suggesting that the “gap” might have been referenced to the 62 + “7” + 1. the seven years that he did not mention or bring up. He included the 62 + 7 together to equal 69 and missed the second section of verse 25, so he must be thinking there was a gap. I haven’t seen the video but from your clip, I am in complete agreement with you. The 70 years is without any gaps.

  16. I agree. There is just no way to find a gap in those verses. Nice job. What 99% of Christians don’t realize is that the futurist theory they go along with came from a Jesuit priest in Spain, Francisco Ribera (1537-1591) who was a part of the Counter Reformation group.
