Flat Earth or Spherical Earth, What does the Bible Say

  1. Where to begin? At the beginning of course. But first a few things. If God were to throw into confusion something that was causing confusion, out of order he established, that would simply be God’s principle of justice being applied ‘eye for eye’. As an example if Israel were to ‘serve’ or worship a ‘foreign’ god, Israel would be made to ‘serve’ that ‘foreign’ god in a ‘foreign’ land (in exile as slaves). God is a just God. Repaying evil for evil is not evil in itself when justice is being exacted in accordance with ‘being judged (sentenced) in accordance with our deeds’. As we sow, so shall we reap. Sow beans – reap beans. Sow evil – reap evil.

God is not the author of confusion (chaos). 1 Cor 14:33. And yet Babel was so named because there God confused the language of all the earth; and from there (Babel) scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Question is, is this apparent bible contradiction confusion itself? Or did God exact justice ‘eye for eye’ in accordance with their deeds. Did the inhabitants of Babel ‘reap confusion’ because they ‘sowed confusion’ out of harmony with God’s order. God was just, by repaying evil for evil, eye for eye.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void: . . . . Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV).
And the earth was without form and void. Genesis 1:2 (KJV).
The Hebrew word for ‘form’ from Strong’s Concordance is ‘tohu’.
The meaning of ‘tohu’ is – a ruin, vacant. My perception of this is – an uninhabited ruin, or a desolation.
The Hebrew word for ‘void’ from Strong’s Concordance is ‘bohu’.
The meaning of ‘bohu’ is – an emptiness.

It is safe to say that the earth was an uninhabited empty ruin or desolation. ‘Tohu’ and ‘bohu’ means that if God created the earth like this, He did’nt do a very good job according to His standards. So: – ‘Was’ the earth without form and void when He created it?
The word for ‘was’ in the Hebrew is ‘hayah’. That Hebrew word ‘hayah’ means ‘to become’.
The translators in translating the word ‘hayah’ as ‘was’ implies something past tense in its meaning. The past tense of ‘to become’ is became. So we have, “And the earth became an empty desolate uninhabited ruin or desolation.” From better understanding Genesis 1:2.

I refuse to believe that God created this mess, but God did create the earth in the beginning. Genesis 1:1. God creates with perfection, beauty, goodness, form, function, symbiosis, harmony and order. Therefore, a destroyer, a bad one (Abaddon, Apollyon) must have intervened.
Something must have destroyed His order, making it a chaotic wreck.
Isaiah 45:18. For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not make it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): . . . . [ This throws new light on Genesis 1:1-2 as perceived by the world.]

Deuteronomy 32:4. “The Rock, his work is PERFECT, for all his ways are justice.

Equally Ferrar Fenton’s translation sheds some light rendering Genesis 1:1-2 thus: – By Periods God created that which produced the Solar Systems; then that which produced the Earth. But the earth was unorganised and empty; and darkness covered its convulsed surface; while the breath of God rocked the surface of its waters.

At the start I spoke about confusion, chaos and Babel, quoting Genesis 11:9. I was shocked to find that Young’s Concordance made an error indicating the meaning of ‘Babel’ to mean – gate of God (Bab-il). Realizing it could not mean that at all (because BetheI does), I checked Strong’s Concordance where ‘Babel’ does mean ‘confusion (by mixing)’. This would mean ‘multiculture’ (how dare I ?). God remedied this by separating them back from multiculture, through language differences. In God’s order, “Birds of a feather flock together”.
The NWO destroyer is galloping the world back to Babel. This very strange world NWO, is in reality Babel, or as we know it Babylon.

‘Babylon’ means – confusion, gate of Bel. ‘Babylonians’ means – sons of Babel. ‘Babylonish’ means – belonging to Shinar. The world destroyer is back among us. Will the world once again become without form and void – a most deslolate abomination? Will its ruins again need renovation by God back to a Garden of Eden? Were dinosaurs ever on this earth before its ruin, followed by its renovation commencing Genesis 1:3? No dinosaurs from this ruined, then renovated earth, boarded Noah’s Ark, did they, when once again history repeated itself by waters again covering the face of the deep. The rainbow ensures this will not happen again. Be not smug, for next it will be by fire. Courtesy of the King of Babylon, of the New World Order. Extra! Extra! Read all about it. Isaiah 14:3-21.

    1. All words in any language derive their meaning from the context used, that is why there are several meanings in those dictionaries. you wrote:
      ‘tohu’ is – a ruin
      ‘bohu’ is – an emptiness.
Therefore God created the earth “WITHOUT form (ruin), and void (empty).
So how can it be ruined if God created it “without” ruin? AND if God said it “was good” at the end of the day, that is the context. Why would I then change the meaning? It was good.

      1. Admin. You misunderstand. I am saying that God created the earth with form. He formed it. Isaiah 45:18 as quoted above. But by the time the creation narrative account had begun in Genesis 1:2 the earth by that time ‘had become’ without form and void. Some speculate that this was after the one-third of the angels, by now demons, rebelled with Lucifer against God and the remaining loyal two-thirds of His angels under Michael the archangel. Genesis 1:1 God created the earth with form and beauty, probably the dinosaur age before the rebellion of Lucifer.
Genesis 1:2 By now the universal war involving Lucifer’s defeat finds the earth ‘without form’ and void. Genesis 1:3 commences its renovation to be once again inhabited as the Garden of Eden attests. Lucifer was straight into the destruction process again by Genesis chapter 3.
It is a difficult subject with not a lot of information, but what I have written I did in the full knowledge that “Cursed be he who does the work of the LORD with slackness”. Jeremiah 48:10.
We have to search for the nuggets of gold with diligence, and we will find the knowledge of God.
Cross examination is good and I welcome it. I agree with you that the earth was then, and is now a sphere. Also, the winds at the four corners of the earth would be North, South, East and West. Not four square corners, obviously.

  2. The Flat Earth debate reminds me of the debate between young earth vs old earth creationism. When Kent Hovind would debate Hugh Ross. Some people didn’t think it mattered.

Nicklas, I’m not to 100% certain what better fits the text of the bible, but I appreciate your input on this subject. Especially the 4 corners verses. Helping me think about it deeper. I think just about everyone agrees the bible doesn’t mention flat earth, so I don’t think that’s helping you make your case. As wells calling it an atheist belief, with all the believers involved. Seems that it’s much harder to deny a creator on an enclosed earth vs a insignificance planet in a sea of galaxies. Taking all the verses as a whole in context would be much more constructive. And trying to determine what fits better.

    Thanks!

    1. The Atheist has been using the same method of interpretation to discredit the Bible for many years. Denying the Creator because the Earth is not Flat is a non sequitur. Evil men will wax worse and worse, “even if one were to rise from the dead” they will not believe. The creation account places the earth in the midst of an infinite universe, immoveable, before anything else was made – meaning that man has prime importance above all creation. This is what the atheist and pagan hate and why they misinterpret the Word to discredit it.
